That Girl – Season 1 (1966-1967) – By Jason S. Lockard

That Girl is one of those sweet little shows from the 60s that you may have heard about or may not have, but it is defiantly worth a look. Now thanks to Australian company Madman Entertainment I was able to relive the first season all over again and you can too.

That Girl follows Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas daughter of TV legend Danny Thomas) a small town girl living and working in the big city waiting for her big break in acting. Her path crossed with a journalist named Don Hollinger (Ted Bessell). Call it fate, kismet or destiny. These two would go on a fantastic journey of love and laughter.

Some of the best episodes of this season include; ‘Anatomy of a blunder’ Ann brings Donald home to meet her parents. ‘Time for Arrest’ Ann ends up in jail trying to help a fellow waitress when she serves two rival underworld groups and the place gets raided by the police. ‘Christmas and the hard-luck kid’ Ann recalls to Donald about a Christmas where she was a teacher and kept a lonely boy company on Christmas when his parents cannot get him. ‘This little piggy had a ball’ Ann has her toe stuck in a bowling ball.

That Girl was a ground breaking sitcom. If there would have been no That Girl there would be no Mary Tyler Moore, Murphy Brown, Blossom, Ally McBeal, Grace Under Fire and others.

This 5 DVD collection not only includes all 30 unedited ground breaking episodes, but also the original pilot episode. Than the bonus features include four audio commentaries featuring Marlo Thomas and Co-Creator Bill Persky and a documentary ‘That Show….. That Woman…. The Creation of That Girl’. This collection is jam packed with good stuff.

This is a must have for sitcom fanatics. So if you can view region 4 DVDs by all means pick up a copy of That Girl Season 1. Visit and find out how you can get a copy today.
