The Disco Exorcist (2011) – By Brian Morton

If you know anything about me, then you know I love exploitation movies. And the campier and weirder, the better. So, when The Disco Exorcist crossed my desk, I was probably happier than you’d expect!
Rex Romanski is the coolest dude at the disco…well, anywhere really…but at the disco, he’s the king. He’s guy all the guys want to hang with and all the girls want to ‘get with’. So, when Rex meets Rita, she’s soon in his bed becoming Rex’s latest conquest. The problem comes when, the next night, Rex eyes Amoreena and sets his sights on his next conquest. You see, Rex doesn’t realize that Rita is not only mentally unstable, but a voodoo priestess as well. So, after making a public scene, Rita puts a curse on Rex and soon, everyone around him is becoming possessed and trying to kill him! What’s a disco-dancer to do???

The really great thing about The Disco Exorcist is that it actually looks and feels like an exploitation movie that was made in the 70s. From the style, to the look of the film itself, if you didn’t know better, you might actually be fooled into thinking that this was something that might have been shown on 42nd Street or at your local grind house. I have to hand it to director Richard Griffin, this movie is fantastic….if you like this sort of thing.

I’m giving The Disco Exorcist 4 out of 4 cigars, your actual rating might be lower if you don’t hold these cool movies from the 70s in as high a regard as I do, but, it’s still a very cool movie that will have you putting on those platform shoes, that leisure suit and hustling around the living room!
