The Last Broadcast (1998) – By Brian Morton

In 1999 a little movie that turned into a phenomenon hit the theatres, that movie was The Blair Witch Project, but what most people don’t know is the Blair Witch was basically a rip-off of a far better low budget movie, The Last Broadcast. Why people flocked to one and not the other, only the mindless drones that run the media can tell us for sure, but one thing is certain, if you wanted that style of horror and (like me) thought that Blair Witch sucked hard, then The Last Broadcast is definitely for you!

Here’s the story: When two cable access show hosts decide to do a live broadcast searching for the fabled Jersey Devil, they enlist two ‘experts’, one is an audio expert and the other is a local psychic, but when everyone but the psychic is killed in the woods and it’s discovered that he’s not a ‘real psychic’, suspicion falls on him for the murders and he’s convicted and dies in jail. Now, a documentary filmmaker is trying to find out the truth using footage taken during that last expedition. The Last Broadcast combines a realistic documentary style with a great story in a way that those Blair Witch morons only wish they could have!! And at the end of this movie you actually get an ending, which beats that other movie all to hell!!

I can’t recommend The Last Broadcast highly enough, it had me interested and entertained from start to finish! If you’d like to see this for yourself, drop on over to Heretic Films and get it for yourself, I guarantee you’ll enjoy it! So, until next time when we’ll talk about a documentary I’m making, it’s about finding the best pizza in the world, but it’s really just an excuse for me to get free pizzas, until then, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
