The Orbs (2013) – By Brian Morton

Everyone loves a good government conspiracy. If they didn’t Oliver Stone would never have had a career! Well, a new movie from Jesse Knight, The Orbs, takes the government conspiracy and gives it a very unique twist.

Wilbur and Loraine live in a house in the middle of nowhere. Since Wilbur is an ex-government employee, they don’t have to work, and all their needs are taken care of, but the two don’t seem to get along. Wilbur is convinced that the government is watching them all the time, and Loraine, even though she believes it too, doesn’t mind too much. As Wilbur fights against his oppressors, Loraine tries to convince him to relax and enjoy the gilded cage. As the movie unfolds, the two find an uneasy truce, as some unseen force convinces them both to cooperate with the other, no matter how crazy they might sound.

Knight has crafted a movie here that’s filled with conspiracy and paranoia without the benefit of a big cast or even a huge budget…something that can’t be easy to do. What are the orbs? Why are Wilbur and Loraine being watched? And what happens when Wilbur attempts to escape? Well, I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you! I’m giving The Orbs 3 out of 4 cigars, it’s not a perfect movie, there are some questions I felt should have been answered, but if you like a movie that will leave you scratching your head and feeling a bit like you’re being watched too, then you’ll love it!
