The Scanner (2010) – By Brian Morton

Sometimes, a short movie is just a short movie, and sometimes a short movie leaves you wanting more. A new short from Gerard Lough, The Scanner, left me wondering what was going on and what might happen next!

This less-than-four-minute short is fairly simple. A man (if he is a man) joins his system to a computer system and begins scanning for something (we’re not sure what), ultimately finding a large structure that looks like it might be modern art…or something else. When he finds it, he goes to it and then disappears!

The Scanner is told completely without words, there’s only music to accompany the visuals, but that doesn’t distract from the movie, you have to figure for yourself what’s going on, and, in the end, I wanted to know where out friend the scanner had gone!

I’m giving The Scanner 3 out of 4 cigars, it’s not perfect, but it’s still pretty damn good, it looks amazing and it really made me wonder what might happen in a longer version of the story! Find out where you can check out this cool short by heading over to http://www.myspace.com/gerard_lough.
