There Once Was a Man (2012) – By Brian Morton

I love revenge movies, and I love serial killer movies. So, when Shain Gillette sent me his latest movie, There Once Was A Man, and it turned out to combine to two (sort of), how could I not love it?!

It all begins with Derek and Amy coming home from a night on the town, they’ve had a lovely time and send the babysitter home with the intent of enjoying another glass of wine. But, soon the two find themselves in the clutches of a man in a mask who’s intentions are clearly not good. What does he want with them, why has he also grabbed their son and how will they get away? Well, I can’t say, or I’d ruin this really cool short!

Suffice it to say, this is one of the best shorts of it’s kind I’ve seen in years. The acting is great, the story is compelling and when it ended, I really wanted to see what was going to happen next. Hopefully, this will get enough positive reaction that Shain will expand the story a bit more! I’m giving There Once Was a Man, 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s not pure horror, it’s not pure revenge, it’s an original mix of both that will leave you happily wanting more!
