Together, Surviving (2013) – By Brian Morton

If you have, or know someone who has, a chronic illness, you know that sometimes is just consumes you. And, sometimes, it takes everything you have in you to NOT let it consume you, and having someone to talk to can sometimes make all the difference in the world. Well, that’s the story of a new short from Nic Barker called Together, Surviving.

Together, Surviving tells the story of two young women, both with different chronic illnesses, who have become friends. The two of them tell us their story, but the real story is about the two of them, how they draw strength from each other and find a way to get by, even if they don’t physically see each other, only communicating over the internet for the most part.

Together, Surviving will make you both sad and happy, sad that these two amazing women are so ill with so much going on, and happy to see that, through each other, they find the strength to not just wallow in their own illness, but to turn what could be a liability into a kind of strength!

I’m giving Together, Surviving 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s a short that I could see turned into a feature very easily…but you’ll probably need a box of tissues to get through it! Find out more and see the short for yourself by heading over to http://www.nicbarkerfilmmaker.com.
