A man in mourning, an illegal loan and the pressure that comes from being short when it comes time to pay it back. Standard film noir plot elements that are at the center of this thirteen minute neo noir short from the UK.
In mourning over the death of his wife and having business problems, Andy takes a loan from the wrong person. And when he falls behind in his payments he has to do something. But when he decides to fight back things go south quickly.
Written and directed by Filippos Vokotopoulos, Unattended Item is his graduation project for the London Film School and he has submitted it to several festivals, the first of which Greece’s Drama Short Film Festival will be giving it it’s world premier on the 22nd of September. The film makes good use of it’s short running time and certainly held my interest. The director compares it to Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur by way of the Coen Brothers. I haven’t seen Tyrannosaur yet but I can see the Coen influence.
This should do well on the festival circuit and hopefully lead to a feature from the director. It’s a well written and well shot film that’s worth checking the shorts at any festivals your attending for.
