Wannabe (2016) – By Loida Garcia

Have you watched KickAss? Well then you’ve seen Wannabe!

High School teenager wants to be a superhero (get it? Wannabe?) so he makes himself an outfit and goes about looking for trouble to stop! Oh but of course let’s not forget his absolutely imbecile sidekick! Every “wannabe” hero needs one!

Seriously, this is KickAss remade by a 17 year old in short film style. *Bangs head against wall*

Alright, with that annoying fact to the side let’s take an objective look at this film.

They actually got the visual aspect of this film right! Holy shit! The look of this film has to be better than most of the films I’m sent to review! Congratulations! YAY! They have managed to give this short film to look really close to a Hollywood film, at least when it comes to the post work done with colors and filters. Hint, hint. Nodge, nodge to all other filmmakers who send stuff in….You can all learn a thing or two from this kid. The audio quality is also not bad. Definitely above par in comparison to what is usually sent in for review. Another big kudos for the makers of Wannabe.

Now let’s get to the bad stuff. Really? A rip off of KickAss? WHY!!?!?!?! Ugh! That’s so bloody frustrating! And it’s not like the acting was any good. Every single actor in this movie was horrid! Doesn’t mean they can’t be good or won’t be good in later movies. It just means that the acting, all around, was awful in this one. The script was also piss poor. Not just because it was a RIP OFF of KickAss but because it just wasn’t written well. The conversations are strained and not natural at all.

I say that this is a good place for these filmmakers to start, but I wouldn’t waste my time on watching this again. Go ahead and skip it.

My Personal Review:
