Wild Girl Waltz (2012) – By Brian Morton

A few years ago, I got to see a movie by Mark Lewis called Bay State Blues, and I thought then ‘here’s a filmmaker with some potential, I can’t wait to see what’s next’. Well, Mark and Levrock Pictures are back with Wild Girl Waltz and he’s as good as I remember!

Wild Girl Waltz is really a ‘small town, slice of life’ kind of movie. Tara and Brian are a young couple who are just enjoying each other’s company. Brian’s sister, Angie, is close to both. One afternoon, with nothing to do, Tara reveals to Angie that she’s been given two pills, she’s not sure what they do, but they were given to her by a friend at work who likes to party. The two each take a pill and Brian is left to contain the two wild girls as they begin to trip! What follows is a wild trip to a local bar, some revenge for a prank pulled on Angie and just three friends enjoying a free day and each other’s company.

To me, the real stand out here is Samantha Steinmetz as Tara, Samantha embodies the small town, yet sophisticated girl, while still giving her enough heart that you’ll fall in love with her too, and she’s clearly the heart and soul of Wild Girl Waltz. Lewis has really tapped into something here with his small town stories, there’s something engaging about his characters and the stories…even if they’re not action packed, you’ll find yourself feeling like you’re hanging out with some cool friends.

I’m giving Wild Girl Waltz 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s charming, it’s funny and it’s a movie that you can’t help but enjoy! Find out more by heading over to http://www.wildgirlwaltz.com.
