Within a Blink of an Eye (2013) – By Philip Smolen

“Within a Blink of an Eye” is a six minute short film from Writer/Director Rodney Wess. It tells the story of a quarreling couple played by Cougar Littlefield and Emma Moody who are on the verge of a breakup. However as the couple think about their breakup, they each have premonitions about the potential dangerous consequences of their actions.

The film plays like a dream and Wess gives his film some of those same ethereal qualities. Wess successfully creates an unsettling mood that permeates the screen and the performances of both actors. Everything feels like it’s a little off. It’s both weird and cool at the same time.

Of course, at only six minutes, everything feels a bit rushed and Wess should definitely consider making the story longer to smooth out some of the dramatics, but “Within a Blink of an Eye” remains an unusual and well made short.
