As a rule, I’m kind of sick of ‘found footage’ films. But, if it’s done right, it’s still a sub-genre that can be interesting. Well, Chris LaMartina and the people at Midnight Crew Studios managed to find a way to make the genre interesting again with the WNUF Halloween Special.
The WNUF Halloween Special is, just that, a Halloween special that’s been taped from a live TV broadcast. We see the news shortly before the special, there are commericals and there’s the special itself, which involves a local reporter going into a supposedly haunted house for the first time in years, a house where some terrible murders have taken place. Through the course of the ‘tape’, we see the story of the house, the people outside waiting to be part of the excitement and the local religious group who feel that Halloween itself should be outlawed for being evil…all the things you’d expect to see on TV in the 80s.
Having actually been alive and watching a ton of TV in the 80s, I can tell you that the WNUF Halloween Special brought back some very fond memories. It looks great and it’s a fantastic movie, from the way it’s made to the story it tells. I’m giving the WNUF Halloween Special 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s one of the few ‘found footage’ movies that I’ve seen lately that’s actually worth watching!
