Worm Free Society (2011) – By Brian Morton

Sci-fi shorts can be tricky things, if you don’t get them right, you can end up confusing people, but they’re hard to get right on a low budget. But, when they’re done correctly, they can be pretty good. That’s the case with Worm Free Society from Rajah Samaroo.

This short is about a futuristic ‘company’, and a couple of people who work at the bottom of the food chain there. Norman shares a desk with an older co-worker, one night Norman discovers that there are microscopic worms on everything around him, his desk, his papers and even in his coffee! This sends him on a mission to find out why they’re there and how he can get rid of them! When the truth is revealed, you’ll probably wonder if these things are real, and find yourself examining your own work space!!

Worm Free Society is the best kind of science fiction, the kind that takes a real world issue and makes it fantastical in order to deal with it in an intelligent way…without being preachy. The issues of control and class organization are something that are pretty hot topics right now, and I think there might be more than a few people who’d love to see this…and it might actually open a few eyes, and make a few more people think about what might be going on in the world.

I’m giving Worm Free Society 3 out of 4 cigars, it’s not a perfect movie, but it’s a great story that deserves to be seen by more people! Find out more over at http://www.edgeinfinity.com.
